In the effort to acknowledge the occasion in a personal way, here are some favorite items/moments:
- Seeing so many different people, from all over the world, assembled in my hometown for their own personal reasons.
- Witnessing the emotions that were being expressed by so many in that crowd...with the occasional single tear.
- Aretha's hat.
- Thousands of flags waving on the National Mall.
- The "Welcome, Malia and Sasha!" banner. And their adorable outfits.
- Malia's digital camera. Screw, AP. She's making her own memories.
- Dr. Biden's boots.
- The last 30 seconds of the Benediction.
- I've seen a lot of parades, but never one that took place in the dark.

So, regardless of how you voted, I hope you, too, were able to find something to appreciate about this day. The historical significance of President Obama's inauguration cannot be questioned and it means a lot to a lot of people. In some cases, more than most of us will ever know.

It was amazing wasn't it? I loved her camera too - it was so sweet. I also loved that he slipped up a bit when repeating the words, it was something I think many of us would do!
It was awesome! Incredible! And Malia with her camera? LOVED that! What a cool experience for the girls.
And I thought it was very human, when he mixed up his words a bit - he memorized the heck out of his speech, but still a bit of nerves being sworn in? Lovely. We can use some humanity in the White House!!!

My favorites were the sheer amount of people. Being from the DMV, I still can't wrap my mind around all those people descending on my city. Glad I was at home in front of the TV. I also LOVED the Benediction. Let the people say "Amen".
