From 2008-2011, Playette and I have attended six different walks in support of raising both awareness of Down syndrome and funds for all types of related family support services.
San Jose, CA
Sacramento, CA
Northern VA
Hampton Roads, VA
Fox Cities, WI
New York City
Some of these we've been to multiple times.
It's hard to believe that we won't be attending one this year.
I really wish we could.
Which still surprises me to hear myself say.
I can still remember so clearly being invited to our local walk in 2007, back when Playette was younger than Dez is now. I was adamant. It wasn't just no, it was HEEELLLL NO. I had no desire and I gave the side-eye to the people that did. I could not relate.
I've come a long way, baby.
There's something about being surrounded by people that get it. A fun day for families and friends, all who love and support someone with an extra chromosome.
I've met some fantastic people along the way. Even some that recognized me from reading here! (shout out to Molly)
We've never had shirts or a big team or a banner, but we've enjoyed participating all the same.
Maybe one day we will have a team. With shirts. And a banner. And glitter. Lots and lots of glitter.
I think I'd like that.
Just the two of us, 2008

In other news:
Kitchen is (semi) clean.
Children are sleeping.
So there.
I'm fabulous.
Thanks, Beth.

why are u not attending one ?
If you have shirts, glitter, or will let me steal baby Dez to snuggle, I am SO IN. OR I'd be in for no tees, no glitter, and just a judgmental "why is mommy letting this weird lady near me" look from Dez.
Also, thanks for not running away when I approached you and opened my mouth and a whole big bundle of awkward fell out! I don't think I've been quite that inarticulate in a long time.
